GMB: I'm getting to know you ... I've read and reviewed some of your
young adult romance novels ... They are unique in that you write the stories from the teenage guy's perspective....
DWD: I hope my writing reflects my memories growing up along the North Carolina coast near Wrightsville and Carolina Beaches. I left that area when I graduated high school and traveled half-way around the world and back ... I collected memories and experiences, which help shape my story characters. I guess its from my point of view and I'm a guy and...
GMB: And now you are back in eastern North Carolina writing these great stories...
DWD: I guess it comes down to my really enjoying the life I can bring to the characters when their adventures take place in my favorite part of the world...
GMB: The Carolinas...
DWD: Yes ... The Carolinas...

DWD: Yes ... That's it... And when your mom owns the only coffee shop on the island, summer means rising before the sun. It also means meeting interesting characters, including cute girls and....
GMB: And where does the story go from there? No spoilers now... *Look of caution*
DWD: Just ask The Boy From Buzby Beach *winks*...
GMB: Well let's do just that ... You have shared a synopsis of sorts ... I want to make sure our readers and followers get a good feel for your latest book... You want to share more without sharing too much?
DWD: Well ... Sure ... The synopsis for The Boy from Buzby Beach reads something like this...
The book opens with the main character, Jacques O’Larrity, a fifteen year old boy with unruly black hair, fussing about having to rise before dawn on the first morning of summer vacation to open his mother’s coffee shop. His mother, a single mom since Jacques was three, thinks Jacques is old enough to start taking on more responsibility. The Parisian Bean is located on the sound side of Buzby Island in the town of Buzby Beach. In the first chapter we meet several Buzby Island residents, long-term and newcomers, from the bakery delivery truck driver who actually owns the bakery to the daughter of the couple that bought the bar next door to the coffee shop and turned it into an ice cream shop.
GMB: Whoa Doug ... Hold it right there ... We're getting a great feel for this read, but I don't want you to give away the Coffee Shop (so to speak) ... Yes ... Getting a real good feel for the setting...
... Now rather than read out the entire story ... How about you read from an excerpt?
DWD: I'd be glad to...How about from Chapter One of The Boy From Buzby Beach...
GMB: You have it with you...?
DWD: I have it right here ... Hot off the press...
GMB: Wonderful ... Could this possibly be the first reading from Buzby?
DWD: Yes ... I guess it is... *smiles*
GMB: That is great ... The First reading from Buzby right here and now ...
DWD: Here goes...
... A stiff sea breeze ruffled Jacques’ shaggy black hair as he blinked the sleep out of his eyes and tried to focus on getting the key into the lock on the front door of his mother’s coffee shop.
GMB: A great read Doug ... Congratulations on the release of another fine work ... Hey ... Before we go ... Before we let our readers, followers know how to find and purchase your work ... I want to share a recent Book Review I did of your River Dream novel ... 'The Complexities of Coming of Age Presented in Strong YA Story-Telling...'
'River Dream', by Douglas Davis is YA story appropriate for ages 13-17. This story follows a financially secure young adult as he negotiates the complexities of youthful relationships to come of age as a young man. And although following the social events of school-age kids may at times seem tedious, I paused to recall the irony ... Youth all was not always new and exciting. And though there was a certain tedium, I must add that the Author maintained the fine balance in this Young Adult read that should be appreciated and... I do appreciate his effort. Therefore, I am recommending this read to Young Adult because of the insight it provides, rather than the typical effort to 'market to and appeal' to the prurient and sensational interest of the targeted Young Adult reader. This work has value that a Young Adult can learn from... I am giving this work Five-Stars. There are many instances a YA reader may learn from and that go to managing complex relationships ... to the benefit of the reader, if interested. G Mitchell Baker, Author, "Lethal Believers: The Innocents' (2012); "Lethal Believers: DVM' (2013) and 'Soccer Tommies Baseball Mommies (2014).
GMB: Doug you write strong and very entertaining stories ... I hope our readers and followers will continue to buy your work, review it, and support your efforts to entertain the Young Adult audience with positive, clean stories about relationships and all that can go right and all that can go wrong about them...
DWD: Thank You Mitch ... It is all about connecting with the characters ... the stories. You know ... Its been great to be here ... I've really enjoyed sharing my work with you, and everyone here in The Anything But a Tired Barn...
GMB: Everyone, you can find the works of Douglas W Davis of D W Davis using the links provided below ... Please support this wonderful author and encourage the young adults in your lives to read and enjoy such wonderful story telling...

GMB: Naw... No way...
RW: Way! My nifty graphics win awards, and my work ethic is beyond reproach.
GMB: Don't you just have to love this woman?
RW: Yep ... Oh and if that’s not enough I'm also a radio personality and own Heal Yourself Talk Radio. I started the radio show about 9 years ago as a way to heal my own body, mind and spirit ... I was hit with several life altering events one right after the other.
GMB: Tell us more about the life altering events you mentioned.
RW: Over the years I have grown in many ways both professionally and personally. I met Kim Mutch Emerson a few years ago, while networking on a popular website called Ryze. Over the years we have worked together on many projects. Last year Kim and I were talking and we both wanted to be able to help authors realize their dreams and become published. Yet we didn’t want our company to be a company without a heart. Both Kim and I love giving, and we love helping. Yet we both had different talents. We are a perfect fit! Kim loves to engage in people and be the mother hen. Kim’s talents in the marketing arena far outweigh mine as far as party planning, and making what seems to be boring and hard, exciting and fun! I love being creative. I love doing graphics and bringing an author’s vision for their book cover to life. A cover they can be proud of. I also love helping those same authors learn how to brand their websites, and how to take over their websites with confidence.
GMB: And I am one on those authors you have created book covers for, with the DVM cover from the Best Selling Lethal Believers series being the latest.
RW: I do love doing graphics and bringing an author’s vision for their book cover to life. A cover they can be proud of...
GMB: Proud indeed ... Thank You Bekah ... So there you have it - the quiet (yet marvelous) half of the small publisher with the big heart - Master Koda Select Publishing - and owner of - Advantage Marketing For You - Rebbekah White.

Good morning Arlene R. O'Neil ... Welcome to the 'Anything But a Tired Barn' and as we work with Master Koda Select Publishing to highlight fantastic authors such as yourself. ... Before we start, I wanted to acknowledge we have just honored Veterans in this Nation, and I know how proud you are of your son Tanner's Service ... Thank You Arlene for providing the Family that allows Tanner to Serve ... And Thank You Tanner ... Your Service is most Honorable and Appreciated.
ARO: Thank You Mitch... I am so Proud... We are so Proud...My son, SGT Tanner O'Neil, is a member of the United States Army and the joy, pride, and love of my life. After five tours of duty to active war zones... SGT O'Neil recently returned from his 5th combat tour.
GMB: And who have you brought the barn with you today? *Huge Ruckus*
ARO: Well... *distracted* When I mentioned I was going to visit your Barn, Rupert and Frosty got so excited ... There was no way they were not coming to help me with this interview about my latest book Broken Spokes.
GMB: And I am sure they are going to have some fun butting heads with Butch abd Sundance ... the Nigerian Pygmy goats out back...
ARO: They are on their way...
GMB: And there they go... And I Thank You for sharing so much of your pride and passion ... Now I'm told your pride and passion includes writing and that you have a special book to share as well.
ARO: Yes Mitch ...
GMB: Your current book, Broken Spokes refers to broken bones, broken bike, and broken spirit. It speaks to the reader of determination, of survival, of inspiration...
ARO: To me Broken Spokes is more than a well-written, interesting read. It is an inspirational collection of the memories of a courageous child who, in spite of physical and emotional suffering, grew into a compassionate, loving and valiant woman.
GMB: And we always welcome more stories written about children and courage...
ARO: Yes ... I hope so...
GMB: But Broken Spokes is your story... Correct?
ARO: Yes. Crippled at age six, I began an odyssey which consumed much of my life. Through my suffering I found ways to heal others...
GMB: The head of your Family prepared to Serve...
ARO: And in doing so, I saved myself...
GMB: Others have said, "I could not put down Broken Spokes until the very last word echoed in my heart.” Judith M. Flynn * * * "I was so inspired by this book. I started out to read a couple of chapters before I went to sleep. Five hours later I had finished the book. I could not put it down. The author is an emotionally strong person, who has survived more than any average person could ever cope with, and come out on top. I recommend this very highly." Roseanne Savage. Tell me Arlene ...
ARO: These are such kind words.
GMB: Tell us more about you...
ARO: Writing is what lights me up ... "Being a visual writer, I love seeing my work come to life ... To take the reader with me on a journey word by word ... To touch a reader whether through laughter or tears is what I am all about.
GMB: Now you were born and raised in Connecticut...
ARO: And moved to South Carolina to work on my second novel, which will relate the roller coaster life of being the parent of a Soldier on active duty. I feel the need to share my experience with other parents in hope of lessening their fears.
GMB: And for my part, I want every one to know that you have edited certain of my novels and how appreciative I am for all your efforts ... Working with you has been a real pleasure.
ARO: Yes ... In addition to being an author, I am an editor and proofreader.

Kim Mutch Emerson Brings Digitus 233 to the Barn Den to Wow us All, and, While Comforting the Chickens ...
GMB: We welcome Kim Mutch Emerson here today. Here in the 'Anything But a Tired Barn' we got together and did something a little different ... We all here in the Barn changed things around a little. We're looking more like a Wolves' Den than a barn and I must say ... Kim we have some nervous chickens around here today...
KME: Well Mitch its good to be here to enjoy the effort to make your Barn into a Den... But you know how I am with the chickens ... They make me a little nervous too.
GMB: Okay forget the chickens for now ... What's with your passion for wolves anyway?
KME: I lived at the top of a mountain with a pack of wolves ... But should we be doing this to the chickens Mitch ... I mean really? Oh, and how about the cow hiding in the corner there ... I'm thinking that is a real look of cowcern...
GMB: Ha ha ha ... Well maybe we ought to change the subject ... perhaps they will all ease up a little if we share a little about your book latest novel Digitus 233.
KME: Good idea Mitch, the less feathers stirred up the better...
GMB: I read you latest novel, Digitus 233 and provided it the following review, "Digitus 233 drops the reader into a remote, hostile environment and to experience the de facto leader on mission ... Then there is the stowaway otherwise smuggling himself into harm's way ... perhaps. Then there is a `room that wasn't a room'. I love the contrast, juxtaposition, the paradox of expansive free form themes and confined spaces ... the notion of intense indoctrination facing off with the notion of identifying and securing reliable relationships, perhaps leadership recruited and refined. There is this creative tension throughout this story and the author has the reader searching for balance, whether from the vertical, or, where one would hope to find resolution on the horizon of an as yet to be undefined... This YA read should be what YA readers read." I'm liking what I see in all you other reviews for Digitus 233.
KME: Thank You Mitch. I appreciate your reading my book about a group of teens caught in a web of deceit. I always wanted to write a book about breaking free of the world’s controlling power or, in the alternative, being doomed to die trying.
GMB: And I I like this review too... "Looking for fantastic characters and a breath-holding, heart-pounding, hair-raising edge of your seat good time? Then look no further, Digitus 233 has it all ~ Maria" Tell me Kim ...What brings you the deepest sense of happiness?
KME: Knowing that I have made a difference in someone’s life. I have an ability to feel deep joy when I watch others succeed.
GMB: And you help a lot of authors as the You are the owner of Master Koda Select Publishing, LLC. Is it the first business you have ever owned?
KME: *Laughter* Nooo. I was just a kid of six or seven when I first ventured into the land of entrepreneurial adventures. I was always hunting around for something to sell. One summer it was candy out of the back of a little red wagon (my venture into door to door sales), one summer it was a carnival in my back yard, one summer I gathered all the neighborhood kids and made them memorize lines and dress in ridiculous costumes and we charged all the adults to suffer through our off-off-off-Broadway plays. The one on-going business I had was selling my stories on the playground at school, so I guess I was an indie publisher way back before it was popular.
GMB: You know Kim we've been friends for years now and I've come to realize that with every ounce of your good intention, there is not a whole lot wasted ... It got me thinking about a quote I want to share...
GMB: You know I just wanted to share as much because you truly are a person in the publishing industry that makes it possible for a lot of writers to never waste their effort ... their spirit... their gifts...
KME: Thank You Mitch.
GMB: Kim, what is your favorite genre to read on a rainy day?
KME: No matter the weather or the genre, three important aspects must be present. First, it can be a romance, thriller, fantasy or sci-fi, but the author has to make me believe it’s possible. Second, the plot must be intriguing and tightly written. And third, the characters have to be three-dimensional. No card-board cut-outs for this girl.
GMB: What is the meaning of life?
KME: To leave the earth a better place for having been here.
GMB: You all in the Barn Den listening in Kim tells me she loves writing thought provoking and action filled stories that bring her readers back for more. Although her writings deal with the evils of the world, she dishes out healthy doses of laughter and fun along the way. Speaking of fun ... Kim, how do you spend your weekends?
KME: I spend my free time wrangling wild horses, rafting down the Amazon, hang gliding on a toothpick, and when I'm awake you will find me working on my next adventure or assisting other authors in creating their dreams.
GMB: How about sharing some Media Links so all can get a hold of you to see how the chickens are doing?
KME: Sure Mitch ... Anything for the Digitus chicken fans out there ... Author blog: http://digitus233.com/category/blog/
Publisher Website: http://masterkodaselectpublishing.com/
GMB: And connect with Kim on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/kimmutch.emerson

GMB: Kim thank you for visiting us here in the Barn Den and I hope you enjoyed the motif we created for you...
KME: Love it Mitch ... You know the chickens have been in my lap for a while now ... And 'Yes' ... Mitch we've had a great time. Many Thanks to all the readers of my work and for your precious input. I don’t think you realize how much it means to me. Each one of you has given me a gift with your kind words. May God bless you in every step you take and may your life be filled with that glorious peace that passes all understanding.
Wow ... Vickie Johnstone ... Dancing like an eejit ... What More can a Zombie Reader ask for... Huh?
Wow! Just published on October 13, 2013, I Dream of Zombies is at the special release price.
GMB: Hello Vickie Johnstone from London, England ... What can you tell us about I Dream of Zombies?
VJ: Hi Mitch ... Much like an interview with you ... It starts with a dream and then the nightmare takes over...
GMB: Awe c'mon now Vickie... The book is not entitled I Interview Zombies...
VJ: Touche Mitch ... Now settle a bit will you ... Just kidding with you on this end... Now then ... I Dream of Zombies is a zombie novel set in London over six weeks in 2013, with a strong female lead character. It all begins on a summer’s day with the media reporting with some hilarity that people are dreaming of the dead coming to life, but those who have dreamt them are convinced they are a warning of things to come. Marla takes it all with a pinch of salt until she experiences the nightmares herself. Cue paranoia and disbelief until reality shows its new face. All over London there are incidences of people becoming sick and aggressive. As the attacks mount, the media is forced to take the matter seriously, but what is causing it? Is it a virus, and is it natural or man-made, and is the government responsible?
Marla, her sister, Ellen, and friend Tommy find themselves fighting for their survival as their sense of reality is smashed. Will the army and police maintain control or will the country find itself in lockdown, isolated from the outside world?
GMB: And Stewart Bint says, "Good character development, good descriptions...and friggin' scary”
VJ: Yes '... friggin' scary' he says ... *winking* (A sly "wink" at that, observes GMB)
GMB: And I found a book excerpt ... Will you read it for us Vickie?
VJ: Sure Mitch ... “A sickening sense of dread ravages him as fear drifts over the surface of his skin like fingers, icy cold and unrelenting. He turns again and sprints towards the exit, his pace becoming increasingly slower as if something is pushing him back. Yet still he finds himself in the exact same position, his feet rooted to the spot, his arms sweeping, useless. His hair blows in the breath that the creature now turns on him, sickening in its putrid scent of death and putrefaction.
“There is not a word he can think of to describe this thing in front of him. Fear creeps, regardless. Twisting, crawling, the maggots swarm across its bloodied face as it opens its mouth wider. Something rips. The yawn seems to swallow him whole into this darkness of despair as a jagged, ripping pain overwhelms him; the sharp teeth chafing, gnawing at his neck, seeking to pierce the jugular vein within. From far off in the distance comes the ripple of laughter.”
GMB: Thanks for dropping by Vickie ... And I'll just let those here in the Barn know a little more about you ... Vickie lives in London, UK, and works as a freelance layout sub editor. GMB: Hello ... G Mitchell Baker, here to introduce you to Master Koda Select Publishing's Nadia Kilrick this Wowser of a Wednesday. Nadia is a Florida native who finds tranquility in the simple life of the Deep South. She believes there is no better place to contemplate life's journey than sitting beside a slow moving creek shaded by mighty moss-draped oaks. It's there that dreams burst free from within the chasms of the human heart. Let's make another friend and today we are here to welcome... Nadia, Nadia...
NK: Well thank You Mitch... Good t'see ya again...
GMB: Yes... I have had the privilege of interviewing you before...
NK: Yes... and it was a wonderful time spend at your 'Anything But a Tired Barn' with all the Author and Friends there... Some art too... http://www.gmitchellbakerauthor.com/3/post/2013/09/jacqueline-cross-keeps-moving-visiting-the-barn-with-great-news.html
GMB: Tell us a little more about yourself...
NK: I have written fiction since childhood. The busyness of life and raising a family slowed the progress of my writing for two decades. When my children moved away, I began writing articles for the web. My passion for fiction writing quietly stirred while writing articles related to gardening, family, self-sufficiency and do-it-yourself projects. Now I write fiction full time. Thriller, suspense/mystery and paranormal are my favorite genres to write. When reading, I reach for psychological thrillers, true crime, mystery/suspense, horror, paranormal, western and historical fiction.
I am is pleased my debut short story, “Ziggy Returns: A Short Tale”, has been published by Master Koda Select Publishing and is now available on Amazon.com. My second novel “Rough Hewn: People of Kilmservy Village”, the second book in her psychological thriller trilogy is also available with MKSP.
GMB: Well let's revisit some of your recent work ... If I recall ... it was Minna who longed for peace and freedom from the constant barrage of demands placed on her by her drunken, philandering husband. Little did she know, even when his careless actions provided the freedom she longed for, peace would be harder to find than before. "Ziggy Returns: A Short Tale" http://www.amazon.com/Ziggy-Returns-ebook/dp/B00EE8SJWU/ref=sr_1_fkmr2_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1376576967&sr=8-1-fkmr2&keywords=ghost+named+ziggy
NK: Well ... I brought a Post Card ...
GMB: Nice ... Tell us in your own words...
NK: Sure Mitch... Minna Fuller finds herself in an odd predicament when her moonshine guzzling husband carelessly causes an accident that changes both their lives. Though relieved to have her life back, she would never have wished death on her husband. Being a man who always had to have the last word, Ziggy returns to their home to instruct her on how she should live the remainder of her life by offering a suggestion she finds far-reaching, even for him. Will Minna be able to rid her home of her husband’s ghost and finally get on with her life? Will she accept his blessing and set onto the path he envisions her taking or will she ignore him and the advice from her friends?
GMB: Sounds a lot like remorse and forgiveness sometimes come too late. Was it Ziggy had to have the last word even if it meant going home after death.
NK: or perhaps it was more about Minna freeing herself from her husband's ghost?
