Amazing how this author takes the premise of protecting The Innocents, and takes the reader on incredible journeys to meet that end. In this novel The Innocents are addicts and those who cannot protect themselves ... In this story the protagonist, Danta, and his mythic partner, Lamia are joined by an intelligent murder of Ravens, who fly along with the multidimensional progress of Danta and Lamia, only to pick the most effective moment to contribute to the benefit of The Innocents. Quite amazing really...Cave Ravens: Lethal Believers

Intense, intelligent and one riveting story! Baker draws emotion from the most intense relationships, scheming, interwoven plots ... and, the Lethal Believer Theme provides such a broad pallet ... I mean when is the last time you read a story with a Greek mythical figure in the role of co-protagonist in a noirish, morals driven mystery? Brilliant! The Consistency of Emerson
Baker Brings so Much Social Awareness to the Page. I Wish more Authors would Write with his Substance...
5 of 5 Stars Review By M. Sharek, June 27, 2017
Format: Paperback|Verified Purchase
This, The Consistency of Emerson is the second novel in the Emerson Series that I have read in sequence (I only realized now I omitted to review this book prior to my Awareness read and review). In any event, the theme seems to be that of a father's consistent involvement in the lives of his children. I particularly enjoyed the story as the growing children began in earnest to develop their own relationship with their father, Jon. I enjoyed the creative tool Baker uses when an old coffee cup, bearing the acronym EFM (for Electronic Flight Management) becomes a symbol of Jon's success.
Throughout the story, the children refer to Jon's EFM accomplishments as 'Effective Father Management', or "Exceptional Father Management', or even 'Extraordinary Father Management'. From the dark beginning of The Involvement of Emerson ... Jon becomes consistently involved and all appears to move in the positive direction of stronger family relationships. Having already read The Awareness of Emerson, I again must say that it is impressive that this author has put so much into the subject of a broken family healing, given the extraordinary effort of a father determined to strengthen his heart, and the relationships around him... Thank you for that effort G Mitchell Baker. Keep writing and I will continue to read your fine works... I am interested in reading your entertaining stories about family, and how families can heal ... Sometimes I wonder how you can bring so much social conscience to your work ... I wish more authors would write with substance, as you tend to do.
The Awareness of Emerson
Excellent! Where No Matter the Test, There is Reason to be Optimistic about Growing, Positive Family Relationships...

The Awareness of Emerson is the third novel I have read in the Emerson Series by G. Mitchell Baker. The first novel, The Involvement of Emerson, was about Jon, a disenfranchised father, becoming (re-)involved in the lives of his children. That first novel was brilliant.
The second novel in the Emerson Series, The Consistency of Emerson is so creative, so imaginative ... the story lines are so unique and interesting, but always with something to learn ... a take-a-way. What I look for in a good read. Again, a step above the usual, hyped 400-page reading fodder I come across ... Baker really brings an honest effort to his character development and storytelling ... Thankfully, there is substance ... not simply titillation ... formula marketed 'ad nausea'.
And now for The Awareness of Emerson, the third novel in the Emerson Series. The premise ... theme really, of this Series (I think I have it figured out), is that once Jon, the father becomes involved in his children's lives and the challenge is to remain consistently involved. Only with consistent involvement can he become more aware of, and appreciate the essential meanings in the lives of his children. I am so impressed ... This Emerson Series actually seems to be telling the story of how a father's heart can grow and become stronger.
As for The Awareness of Emerson, it is perhaps the most relaxed novel of the three to read ... and I get that ... gone is the intense struggle to survive from The Involvement... story. Gone is the suffocating uncertainty Jon experienced in The Consistency... Now, in The Awareness of Emerson, there is struggle, and some uncertainty, but the directions are mostly positive ... the will to advance further into the meaning of his relationship with his children resolute... rewarding for all...
At this third stage of my reading this Series, I have to say the investment has been worth it ... without question... I gladly give The Emerson Series 5 Stars, and The Awareness of Emerson 5+ Stars ... it is getting better, and I believe because this author is pushing for all he can to make this a world class read about fathers, modern child/teens, and, family relationships. These reads are not necessarily glamorous, sexy ... the blockbuster ... unless of course you are interested in learning more about a determined father and how to bring a family back together, and stay together.
Ask yourself, when is the last time you read and learned something about a broken family being healed by the efforts of a determined father. I was privileged to read and learn about a broken family healing, given the efforts of a father made strong again and believe this story contributes one heck of a lot to the scape and milieu where the belief is, no matter what the test, there is reason to be optimistic about positive family relationships.
Congratulations G. Mitchell Baker. Well done! I hope there will be a fourth novel in this series ...
A Lot of Story .. the Paranormal Storytelling Appears Used by Baker to Create from the Largest Storytelling Pallet Possible...
5 of 5 Stars By M. Sharek, June 27, 2017
I was not sure whether I wanted to read Cave Ravens from The Lethal Believers Series ... paranormal is not my typical read ... but I quickly learned the storytelling of G Mitchell Baker is definitely not what I consider 'typical' paranormal!
The author, G. Mitchell Baker (G.M. Baker) brings together an imperfect team of paranormal persona (Emerine, Pauline), Greek myths (Lamia, Hesiod) and a noir-like protagonist named Malachi Danta-Mercadel, a retired Interpol Agent now semi retired as a small town deputy in a resort community. From what I can tell from reading this third novel first (three novel series), Danta has always been productively obsessed with taking on Mantid Tranquil, and, to battle the amorphous organization to protect The Innocents, be they children, animals, or those who cannot defend themselves (the vulnerable).
I particularly like the interaction of the noir-like Danta character, with the Greek Myths (Hesiod and Lamia) who joined him to not only protect the Innocents (in this book addicts and those the subject of abuse from trusted figures), but to continue their efforts to rehabilitate Lamia's mythology previously distorted and ruined by the British poet John Keats (a bit of true literary history here ... the author brilliantly worked this into the fiction)(I told you this was not typical paranormal).
I have to tell you ... this writing is intelligent and I could not anticipate (as I usually can) ... frankly, given the strong theme of social conscience, this read was so original and unique I would not characterize it as only 'paranormal'. There is a lot of story here and the paranormal storytelling appears used by Baker to create from the largest imagination/storytelling pallet possible. In The Cave Ravens there is tension, action ... incredible scenes in multi-dimension ... I enjoyed it all ... and, strangely, very strangely, it all seemed plausible.
I have already set my sights on reading D.V.M., the second in the Series (I guess I'll go backwards) ... If it is anything like this read, I shall not be suggesting paranormal reads are not my cup of tea any longer. It took an extremely talented writer to create ... to master this story ... I look forward to a consideration of D.V.M. ... and then the entire Lethal Believer Series.
The Great Corn Tumblin' Read is an Opportune Reference for Young Readers to Learn Responsibility, Competition and Character
5 of 5 Stars By M. Sharek, June 27, 2017
The Great Corn Tumblin' is a very entertaining book about young adults, their horses, and how family comes together to prepare and compete in a world class competition (The Tevis Cup) responsibly, and with character. An opportune reference for young readers to learn about responsibility, competition and character.
In this world of increasing technological use by children; teachers and parents alike are searching for ways to help broaden their children's scope of interest and knowledge outdoors and beyond computers and their games. The Great Corn Tumblin' novel, expands on this aspect beautifully for all students to enjoy.
This entertaining story develops the importance of character building through the experiences of Chance, the adopted orphan grandson and Brooke, his new riding friend, when they decide to dream big and enter the Tevis Cup 100 mile endurance ride through the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Little did they realize the range of challenges in training they, along with their horses, Webb and Chip, would have to overcome and endure to qualify for the world's most difficult 24 hour long equine endurance race. This exceptional novel expands on this aspect of responsibility and character beautifully, and for all students to enjoy while learning more about the importance of character building.
This book should be in school libraries, and relied on as a foundation read for imparting lessons and discussion topics about Responsibility, Competition and Character with middle grade students and young readers.
The Adaptable NEoNATURE Technology Series
Review by Dale Krenz, April, 10, 2017
5 of 5 Stars
ANNT Axiom 1 through 4 entertains the science fiction concept of a unification of bio science, genetics and quantum supercomputing to advance a theory of utilizing the blueprint of old mother nature to usher in ANNT. Adaptable NeoNature Technology will create an entirely new form of nature that is controlled, contrived, and made wholly available to man for his benefit.
G. Mitchell baker presents this concept through senate intelligence meeting’s in which government officials are informed about what ANNT is and how it has existed and is currently being used and deployed around the world. Doctors Gens and Doceo are the two brilliant young scientists who developed ANNT and as was explained, the most successful species on earth is of course ants. Ants fill most niches on our planet and with this, they have adapted to the countless biospheres present in our world. These specializations are exploited by gens and Doceo to fit specific types of ants for distinct tasks and missions. these creatures, scaled up to human size with incorporated genetics and quantum computers, represent a formidable new tool for mankind, from search and rescue and agriculture, too potentially more nefarious practices. although gens and Doceo co-developed ANNT, their perspectives and end usage of ANNT, the author alludes to us to believe, could be entirely different.
Pismire Technologies Corporation is the business end of ANNT and as such is divided into 2 divisions, civilian and military. Most applications that G. Mitchell Baker describes are of civilian variety but as any good author does, the implication is that there is more, much more to the story. to install an essentially new host of species in amongst us, that is daily; presence would become a new norm, presents infinite scenarios.
ANNT is a fascinating look into the future. a work left wide open. Perhaps a utopian society with scaled up insects to do our work … perhaps something more sinister in the making? we will only find out as G. Mitchell Baker continues with this superb series and the consequences elaborated.

Therapists hear this echo from children repeatedly. “Mom & Dad are always arguing, watching TV or at work. I have no one to talk to I’m so lonely.” In The Involvement of Emerson (Volume I), Jon Emerson moves out. How did he lose his children? He misses his girls, Sandra, Emma, and Anna, and wonders how will he again win them over to be a great Dad again? Through a remarkable set of circumstances, Jon becomes re-involved in his children’s lives.
In The Consistency of Emerson (Volume II), Jon struggles, but learns to be consistently involved if his next step is for him to be, and remain a great Dad. In The Awareness of Emerson (Volume III) Jon and his girls are comfortable enough to begin personal enquiries related to events and surroundings, which Jon elaborates on with great enthusiasm. Over time, Jon recognizes growth in their knowledge, which helps to narrow the gap in their communication and love for each other. A win-win for all and an exhilarating feeling Jon had not anticipated ever experiencing again.
Before I reached page 200 of The Awareness of Emerson, I had decided to buy a box full of this book to gift to family and friends. The Emerson Series is true literary storytelling that tells about, and gets one thinking more about families, fathers, and relationships. This father friendly storytelling is written in a wonderful, unique, and tasteful presentation that leaves me to consider that this read is heads above anything I have read from the major publishers of late. I have read Involvement, Consistency, and now Awareness and this Emerson Series is getting better and better. You know what… just because those larger publishers missed this great author, and his story telling, does not mean you have to miss out as well… I am writing this review because out of the millions of books out there, this book is one to grab up and to enjoy during your quiet times this summer. I believe it is a true contribution to family literature that deserves to be purchased, read, and gifted.
A Novel and Challenging Read
ANNT: Axiom I & II
By Mr. Heath Nightingale, September 18, 2016
5 of 5 stars
I am an avid reader, but i have never ventured into the science-fiction genre. G. Mitchell Baker’s ANNT is a stimulating introduction to this rich and fascinating literature.
Arguing the limits of Mother Nature, Doctors Doceo and Gens grow ants to human scale to address difficult and intractable societal problems. They developed “adaptable neo-nature technology” (ANNT) to respond to panoply of human calamities ranging from rescuing people from burning buildings to foiling terrorist attacks. Baker credibly weaves his narrative from a strong grounding in engineering, quantum computing, genetics, bio-molecular physics, and bio-medical printing. While this novel explores the interactivity of science, technology, and nature, my interest was sparked by baker’s examination of relevant moral, ethical, and economic issues.
Discussing the etiology of their choice of ants as a useful vehicle, Doceo and Gens describe the nature of social interaction in typical ant colonies. This led to commentary on the comparative efficacy of capitalist and communist economic systems. While governments maintain a keen interest in utilizing and controlling the fruits of the applied scientific thought, scientists often wish to ensure professional independence. Using the platform of “senate intelligence hearings,” baker skillfully demonstrates the tension between these adversarial perspectives. When presenting her findings to the “doctoral candidate review committee,” Dr. Doceo misrepresents some of her findings. Dr. Gens was the only person privy to Dr. Doceo’s devious behavior. Baker uses this scenario to explore the relationship, gender, and power issues in the scientific community.
G Mitchell Baker’s prose is clear, imaginative, and creative. His descriptions of scientific and technology are intricate and intriguing. I especially enjoyed his examination of concomitant economic, governmental, and interpersonal systems.

A fascinating read, this book takes the reader through despair and disconnection to unexpected and novel bonds, as Jon Emerson loses his family and becomes entrenched in the harsh life on the streets of Seattle. By following his life path, the reader is drawn to new possibilities and reconnections. Creative expression inspires colourful characters to become the reader’s friends, possibly leading to personal insights.
So looking forward to Jon Emerson’s continued journey in baker’s second book of the series: The Consistency of Emerson

Imagine you are an attorney, at the top of your game, highly respected, making tons of money, with an adoring wife and three beautiful daughters. Then, one morning as you step outside to get the newspaper, wearing nothing but your bathrobe, you hear the door lock behind you. Then a police car arrives to serve you a restraining order to stay away from your home, family, and wife . . .
Jonathan Wohlford Emerson is suddenly stripped and reduced to a miserable life as a homeless street person. And, being a lawyer, why should we really care? Ah, but no, we do care, because the one spark of love that still glows within him is that love for his three daughters. Plus, we must also care because he served his country as a Marine; trained to kill, with nearly 100 missions, consistently executed. He is not ordinary, he is in fact, extraordinary, but has lost his will and his way.
In this era of increasingly short attention spans, those seeking a ‘quick-fix’ or ‘instant gratification’ in reading may keep looking. This nearly 400-page story is revealed slowly like peeling an onion . . . And, like peeling an onion, you will shed a tear or two, before reaching the reward of sweet-succulent gratification.
Thus, if you seek a story about the human experience, grounded in the smelly, twisted grit of the real world . . . this is a must read. In the words of the protagonist, Jon Emerson: “My story begins with having to realize, and accept the fact I was systematically being destroyed. I left my home, rather than be dismantled within it.” On the streets, immersed into that dreadful community of lost and dangerous souls, Jon becomes known as ‘The Peacemaker’ while he continues to fight his own demons— “Unbeknownst to Jon, his tone changed from the despair of a caring father, to the anger of a disparaged veteran. Old, unhealed wounds saturated his conscious, and manipulated his pain.”
Then, a benevolent stranger gives him a remarkable gift, a classic antique pen. Jon names it “Covet” and this pen in his hand compels him to write his thoughts and ideas, intended for his beloved daughters, on another gift, a pack of paper napkins. Thus, begins a transformation of wondrous proportions to inspire souls across the earth. As Jon is awakened to his new reality: “ . . . he realized, more now than ever before, that to devolve had been necessary, for him to become, again involved.” And, he comes to know that he is— “No longer the arrogant legal professional and sovereign over meaningless relationships, Jon learns from meaningful friendships that to remain involved, is the essence of family.”
This magnificent story of a man, whose heart and soul is saturated with absolute love and devotion, endures destruction and devastation. Yet, finds his complete renewal and salvation by offering the same to others. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
There is PROTO-ANNT 72, TRACK-ANNT, DETON-ANNT and SAFESOUND-ANNT... This ANNT Series needs to be in libraries and schools.

I purchased ANNT: Axiom III & IV ... again a great two-for one value and offering of two novelettes for SCI-FI readers beginning about grade 5. I just finished these reads and the characters are strong and well-established. There is Dr. Niles Gens, the practical physicist, geneticist and engineer. And there is the passionate Dr. Austina Doceo who specializes in other science to include biology and nano-technologies. They are on their journey to solve the world's problems at 14 years of age and we follow them through the adventures that involve hard science, technology, governance and the impact this all has on society. What is really intriguing is that now there are also the ANNT characters to learn and follow. In ANNT: Axiom I & II there were the likes of SINO-ANNT, FRENCH TACTICAL-ANNT, PROTO-ANNT 72, TRACK-ANNT, DETON-ANNT and SAFESOUND-ANNT. In ANNT; Axiom III & IV there is CONSERVE-ANNT, WEAVER-ANNT, the all-purpose TETRA-ANNT, URBANFORCE-ANNT and ERADO-ANNT... so much more. The stories range from saving wild elephants in Africa from poachers, to eradicating the source of illegal drug supplies all around the world (in one operation). Incredible problems and solution for young readers to consider, perhaps imagine in their own worlds. I see the author also is involved in the artwork for these books and it all seems quite amazing. Again, I hope there is more in store because I believe these books will ignite the imaginations of young readers not only to entertain, but provide a challenge to come up with as good, if not better solutions to problems in this world than Dr. Gens, and Dr. Doceo. As a Special Ed. and Elementary teacher for 36 years I could have really used this kind of material to get my kids excited and thinking about the world around them. This ANNT Series needs to be in libraries and schools.

Wow ... I hope there is a lot more Adaptable Neo-Nature writing on the way... May 22, 2015
I purchased the paperback version of the ANNT: Axiom I & II and, as advertised, this series is Science Fiction that a Grade 5 reader can start with if they don't mind being entertained a lot and presented with the opportunity to learn a lot as well. Interestingly, each book contains two novelette of the appropriate length for young readers (75-90 pages). What a great value. My understanding (as a Special Ed and Elementary teacher of 36 years) ANNT: Axiom is to encourage young readers to think about the future of science, technology, government, and society. The story is about two young geniuses who want to solve world problems. They take on the challenge and invent Adaptable Neo-Nature Technology to compete with old Mother Nature (oMN) and provide solutions where old Mother Nature falls short. The stories take place all over the world and anywhere from Senate Hearing Chambers, to a Decision-Making Centre high in the Himalayas, to distressed farmland in Illinois, to a racecourse in Spain. There is action, interaction of young and old alike, some of whom understand, some who don't get it, and some who learn along the way. There is positive modelling written into these incredible stories. There is so much more to say about this material. It engages on so many levels that writing about everything is a challenge in and of itself. Suffice it to say, this SCI-FI series of books needs to be in libraries and schools. We have gone far too long without this kind of material to challenge our youth on so many important levels of 'What If' (critical) thinking, while keeping it interesting. I hope G Mitchell Baker is writing more ... we need him to keep writing and challenging our children to think about their future and how science, technology, government will determine the make-up of our society. Bravo G Mitchell Baker, ANNT: Axiom I may have been a little too much about the geniuses and scientists themselves, but when it got going in Axiom II what jam packed and entertaining storytelling with a purpose. I believe there are going to be a lot of kids reading these books and asking a lot of great questions. Can you imagine the Internet being used by kids to look up and figure things out rather than play mindless games? These books provide entertaining challenge, and a gateway for kids to enter into the world of critical thinking about important subject matter. Wow... I hope there is a lot more Adaptable Neo-Nature writing on the way...

For a quick uplifting read it wasn't to bad but I expected more. I know most of the authors books and I feel as if this was a hurried book for the holidays. I especially love John Emil Augustine story which was probably because it touched a period in my own life. There were many good stories and would be a good book for the person that has it all and you need a special something.

Sports isn’t the half of it. July 20, 2014
Soccer Tommies Baseball Mommies is truly a joy to read. I loved this short story. Let me start with the premise, and then I’ll continue with some bullets of pros and cons. Paternal Twins Teddy and Terri Fabiano as sports lovers to the bone. The only difference between them is that one favors baseball while the other favors soccer. Like any real brother and sister that love each other, they also can't stand each other and are constantly playing pranks on one another. Until the unexpected happens. Old Luke, a tornado, sweeps through the town and leave destruction in its wake. The entire town is devastated by the tornado and most of it comes crashing down, including one of the fields--more specifically the soccer field.
Forced to confront the reality that they must now share the baseball field, the town is even more angry. What true sports fan wouldn’t be at the realization that they must share their beloved field? In its entirety, this story will make you laugh, giggle, sigh and pout, and at times talk out loud to the characters.
Let’s start with the one and only Con:
1. At the very beginning of the story (the first chapter) I was a little confused because the 3 characters in that chapter all had T names. So since I was just becoming familiar with the story, I was a tad befuddled as I couldn't remember which T named character was who.
This however, clears up by the second chapter and all if fine after that.
Pros:
1. The story is well written and super engaging. And while written for youth, any person (or sports fan) of any age can appreciate it.
2. There are real human emotions nicely weaved thoroughly through the story and it makes you connect to it in a special way.
3. The characters come to life, and you can almost hear their voices and accents as you read along. This is the sign of a well written book.
4. The twins were fantastic and I loved their genuine sibling connection-slash-rivalry. One on my favorite characters was the mayor.
5. The imagery is there and you feel like your in the town, with the town's people.
All in all this story did have a lesson to teach, and that is, that when push comes to shove, people that really care about each other stick together. Moreover, when they DO stick together they can get marvelous things accomplished.
A Plus read. I highly recommend it!

Soccer Tommies, Baseball Mommies by G Mitchell Baker with Jane Carroll is an enjoyable escape. There is so much going on. Fun for young and not so young. Oh, and yes, there are tornadoes. Just a warning. I say that with trepidation because I don’t know from such things in California. Only earthquakes and floods.
I love the positive messages. One, being a population that works together, stays together. Just like Mrs. Clinton penned, it takes a village.
This story takes place in a small community called Belleville where Old Luke ravaged the town.
The beauty is that when there are soccer mommies (and not just Socceer Tommies) there are lessons learned more than just scores. People don’t have to agree but they can come together and form a positive. alliance.
I highly recommend Soccer Tommies, Baseball Mommies. It’s great for middle graders and not just inspiring for sport enthusiasts.

Competition, cooperation, teamwork! The town of Belleville needed them all after the tornado tore through. Mr. Baker incorporates many aspects of competition the tween and teen years can bring: boys vs girls, baseball vs soccer, kids vs grownups, and even Soccer Tommie vs Skunksters. From the anxious and terrifying excitement of the storm, to the different ways town folk reacted in the aftermath, and the way the ball players of both sports vie to see who’ll get use of the one remaining ball field, Mr. Baker combined the elements of great story telling to make me feel a part of the town and had me choosing sides. (Soccer Tommies, sorry baseball fans. I read the book during the World Cup.) This book has so much to offer young readers. It is a fast paced, fun read that tweens and teens will enjoy, even as they learn a lesson or two. Soccer Tommies Baseball Mommies is a Championship contender.

Soccer Tommies Baseball Mommies by G. Mitchell Baker with Jane Carroll. Teddy and Terri, twins, both have a passion for their sport. Teddy loves baseball, and Terri loves soccer; the problem comes when they are forced to share a playing field. Old Luke, a tornado that tears through Belleville, leaves the town in bad shape. The soccer players are forced to share their field with the baseball players. How the town handles this problem is what makes Belleville unique. The story is told with humor. I especially loved the skunks. I did feel the story was a bit long towards the end. Having said that, I feel the story was a great lesson for all ages; settle differences with patience and a bit of ingenuity. I was given an ARC in return for an honest review.

I enjoy G Mitchell Baker's writing very much. He knows how to grab the reader's attention right from the start. Soccer Tommies, Baseball Mommies is no exception.
With the town torn apart by natural disaster, the best and the worst in its citizens are on full parade. Young and old, alike, passionate in their belief that the only remaining sports field be used by their preferred team, leads to lessons learned in compromise, kindness, friendship and community. It falls upon the leaders of Belleville to find a way to calm tensions and bring the town back together.
Jane Carroll’s kind spirit and positive voice adds to any life she touches. The same is true for any work she contributes to, such as this one. I was ever-so-pleased to know she had been a part of creating this wonderful YA story.
I recommend this book for all middle school age kids, parents, coaches, and community at large.

When you pick up a YA you often presume they all lead the same way - modern struggles and relationship troubles... well sure there's some of that here, but not how you think.
There is also a deep moral understanding in this book that is one we should all aspire to taking on board - the moral of sharing even when we don't believe we should.
After old Luke swept through town and caused havoc, the Soccer Tommies and Baseball Mommies find themselves having to split their share of the Old B between practice times so that both teams can still practice while town repairs are under way. Neither side are impressed with this revelation and devise a plan to have all or nothing - but as we know - the best laid plans of mice and men.... well you know how that goes.
With back and forth banter, and good old humor, you find yourself becoming immersed in the tale and rooting for one side or the other. Are you a Soccer Tommie? Or a Baseball Mommie?
Are you undecided? Read this moral filled story in order to find out. I loved the moral of having to share what we see as ours, and learning how to share is what matters most in life. G Mitchell Baker has brought that moral to life in his latest book, and he awaits your take on one of the biggest lessons in life.

Great Read! In the mist of disaster unity is born. This clever tale shows that even though life is unpredictable people can come together and create a common bond for the love of the game. This book is awesome for middle school readers and the lessons are immensely valuable. G. Mitchell Baker did a great job making the characters and situations believable. He’s on my list of authors to watch for.

A wonderful read June 30, 2014
I enjoyed this book. I often found myself laughing out loud as I read. I absolutely loved the skunk scene. As I read it I could smell the putrid aroma floating through the air.
This book carried a message that if people could compromise, anything is possible. The writing was crisp and it held my attention.
I'm a fan of sports books/movies and I recommend this book to anyone. Game on!

Great Read!! June 30, 2014
I received an ARC for an honest review. I loved this book from the very beginning. Mr. Baker sets us on the path of action from the very start. The Soccer Tommies and the Baseball Mommies are okay that both exist; that is, until tragedy strikes the small community of Belleville, where sports are a priority. A tornado named Old Luke literally turns life upside down. Now the two teams, the Pirates (baseball) and the Dominion Daughters (soccer) must share the only available field. The Pirates baseball field is untouched, while the Dominion Daughters soccer field is a disaster. And, to top it off, it's being used for the tornado’s debris.
The story centers around twin siblings, Teddy and Terri Fabiano. Teddy loves baseball and Terri loves soccer. They are equally passionate about their respective sports, and when forced to share one field in order to keep practicing, sparks start to fly. But not just from the kids. The whole town is on edge and Mayor Tabbshey along with several of the towns leaders must figure out how to help the town to heal and restore peace once more.
I feel the biggest lesson we learn from this story is that treating others kindly should always come first. It can be so easy for any of us to lose sight of that when life gets turned upside down.
I highly recommend this book to any middle grader, whether they like sports or not.

Reading The Best Books, Shapes The Best Minds~ June 28, 2014
My first introduction to G Mitchell Baker, the man and the author-was impressive from three points of view; intelligent, charming, and devoted to the game of baseball!
The title of this book-'Soccer Tommie's Baseball Mommies,' was a stop sign, promising a worthy read for me. I was not wrong. I appreciate the honor of being privileged to read the pre-release...intriguing, holds the attention, interesting style of writing, subject matter and choice of words all woven into a tale of make believe reality for the reader that has a special grab. Baseball fan or not, read it, share it, gift it...it is life unleashed with humor!

Refreshing and interesting read! June 28, 2014
I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Tornadoes, girls playing soccer...boys with baseball bats... G. Mitchell Baker has a talent of creating this easy-going atmosphere and bringing the reader in the eye of the story. Or in this case, should I say in the eye of a storm...
This story could tell about me or you or someone we know, as it is quite realistic and message in it ageless. In this story G. Mitchell Baker skillfully reminds the reader about the power of community and how things will work out if people just work together.
The town of Belleville has been hammered pretty badly by the tornado called Old Luke. Soccer players will have to share a practice field with the baseball people. Easy, you may think...well, think again. Things can get pretty bloody where there are baseball mommies around. But where there is will there is a victory. I don't know a squat about soccer or baseball or at least I didn't before I had read this book. And yet this story is so much more than just about soccer or baseball. There is hidden wisdom along the way, life lessons that you don’t want to miss. Sure, this is a book for teen/YA readers, but I don’t see a reason why adults couldn't enjoy the story as well. I did.
This was a refreshing change and quite different from the YA books I normally read, and yeah also, because I absolutely love G. Mitchell Baker's writing style. That said, if you have or happen to know a teenager who likes sport books with a couple of interesting twists, this book might be a perfect gift for them.

Soccer Tommies Baseball Mommies
5 of 5 Stars Review by D. John Watson, June 27, 2014

Welcome to Belleville where soccer and baseball are the biggest sports. The Soccer Tommies and Baseball Mommies coexist quite peacefully until that is, when a tornado named Old Luke visits the town and turns life upside down. Now the two teams Pirates and the Dominion Daughters must share the baseball field while the other is being used for the tornado’s debris. G. Mitchell Baker tells a story centering around twins Teddy and Terri Fabiano, a brother and sister who are equally passionate about their sports and about having to share the baseball field with the Soccer Tommies so they can keep playing. This could be any town and we all knew people like this growing up, or we were them. He draws from his own experiences growing up and that gives this book a real sense of authenticity. His characters are people you know and can relate to and the writing is easy and real. The biggest lesson is that no matter what adversities we face, how we treat others says a lot about who we are. And that sometimes, it’s easy to lose sight of that when life gets turned upside down.
This is a great read for any middle grader, whether they’re interested in sports or not.

It has u laughing in one story and crying in another. You’ll find yourself relating to many of the stories. Being able to relate, is one of the many reasons this book is so special and personal. 'Holiday Keepsakes' has the talents of many authors and each one of them has their own way of presenting a story or poem to the reader. It’s also very special to have that many writing personalities, in one book. I loved it! You will love this book, I promise!

Excellent gift December 24, 2013
This is such a wonderful bundle to read. It inspires and gives one hope, not only for this season but for all year round. It encourages and brings back the smiles of your own adventures, stories, and memories from years gone by. They are the memories that had built our character, giving us the foundation for our lives, being the persons who we have become.
It is such an honor to read a book where you know most of the authors, hear their struggles but still stand firm in the knowledge that there is still a future. There is still a reason to move forward and enjoy the richness of this life, sharing it with others.
We can never disregard those moments that builds us, strengthen us, as well as the people that walks with us. They are the reason we are, who we are. Our pillar during times that we need it the most, and a constant reminder of our weakness, keeping us humble at all times.
Thanks for sharing this lovely book with us. I really enjoyed the book, appreciating each author tremendously for who they are.
I loved it so much I gave a few away as gifts. Really a blessing to read.

The Best Book To Give This year December 14, 2013
I have to admit, when I got this book, I wasn’t feeling very much like I was in the Christmas mood. But as I read the stories. I found that everyone one of them had a message that spoke right to me. I was reminded of holidays during happier times with my own family and of better times over the years. It made me remember that things do get better, I remember my first Christmas a new father, but most important, this book made me see beyond my own troubles to the true meaning of the holiday. This year, I will be spending it with my grandchildren for the first time, another first for me. If you could give one book as a gift this year, give this one, you won’t regret it. A well-deserved 5 stars.

A story may perhaps be the best gift to receive over the holidays. December 13, 2013
A collection of Holiday Memories by various authors. Heartwarming recollections of Holidays past by children all grown up now and reflecting on not just the memories but the years in between. I discovered a world of memories, both warm and frightening, to enjoy each evening as we approach the end of the year, each in our own way. I was reminded of all the things that go on between siblings, all the lengths to which parents and relatives go this time of year to create the magic, and how as children we would learn about the various cultures and settings in which the holidays are observed around the world. We would read about Christmas in warmer places and try to picture it. Likewise, we could only imagine the winters in the Midwest. It is all here in this fine collection of stories and poems. The Holidays of the past brought to life and shared in love. This little book was a gift to me this season and it may be one of the best gifts I’ve ever received.

A beautiful collection of memories and blessings of this special season of the year. I have tears in my eyes from my own memories that this beautiful book brought back to my memory. A Gift of Magic for Anyone! Enchanting! Delicious! November 24, 2013
“Holiday Keepsakes: A Collection of Stories, Poems and Memories” embodies Christmas past, present and future for those of us who celebrate this holiday. We are all bound together with our remembrances of the Christmases of our childhood, the Christmas we are about to celebrate and the Christmases to look forward to with families growing and dwindling by the very nature of life itself. I was particularly touched by Arlene O'Neil’s “Is it the Most Wonderful Time of the Year?”, as it brought forth the reality of what Christmas is like for many in having “empty chairs” at the holidays. It was a gentle reminder to be grateful and joyous for each of those we do have in our lives to share Christmas (and everyday) with, and to lovingly remember those that have gone before us and to share it with them in a different way. Through the other writings of the authors in this book, I was able to live vicariously in the lives of Christmas remembrances. I laughed. I cried. I was filled up with the wonder, magic, and spirit of Christmas through reading this book!
I was reminded how we are all in this “living” together. I found relatable experiences through the evolution of music and living at a wolf rescue. “The Weather Outside is Frightful” touched my own soul. A connection was made ... one that will always stay with me.
I also made a connection to a homemade dollhouse and how love built stronger walls than any toy manufacturer could possibly create. I found myself remembering the times I would want something like someone famous had, so that I might feel as special in my own heart. I enjoyed connecting with my own love of poetry inside the enchantments of this very special Christmas book. Even the miracles of Christmas were included and life spent in different locations as a child of a military father, something I could not relate to, but found so fascinating.
I laughed over hummingbirds growling and how a loving connection with a parent can be made over the tiniest things in life and what life was like for a Puerto Rican Christmas in New York. I actually laughed out loud over the “Great Sweet Potato Revolt of 1981,” and thought about my own son making snow angels in reading “The First Snow.”
I was touched by the story of the Polish grandmother, Buschia, and I loved peering in on life “Remembering Bellaire Avenue” with the Perlin family. I still get shivers reading about the angst of family running from family in “The Man in the Window.” It will stay with me a long time. I was swept away by the magic of a snowflake and the beauty of lessons that come from nature and how they can be all the more magical at Christmastime. Each story and poem in this enchanting book is sure to touch something inside every one of us. Even if you celebrate something other than Christmas, the life stories are relatable. I’ve come away with a sense of wonder, magic, joy, fear, sadness and all the other emotions that make up our human experience. This is as much a book about life, love and everything that makes families unique ... just like snowflakes. A fabulous read ~ A gift of magic for anyone ... Highest recommendation!

Not what I was looking for September 27, 2013
Today's post is on Lethal Believers: The Innocents by G.M. Baker. It is 215 pages long and is published by Master Koda Publishing. The cover has the title and author name in white against a gray background with smoke and some kind of cross on it. The intended reader is someone who likes thrillers I think but I will get into that in my review. There is language, sex, talk of rape and child molestation, and violence in this book so beware. It is told from varying view point but I will get into that in my review as well. There Be Spoilers Ahead. From Goodreads- Malachi Danta-Mercadel, retired INTERPOL/Secret Service rails against the Mantid Tranquil organization bent on vesting a form of paranormal revenge, given Danta's handiwork for exposing Mantids illicit operations. However, a certain intervention, with an intricate agenda, leaves both Danta and Mantid Tranquil not only at decisive odds, but also at the distinct disadvantage of an unsettled Myth. Review- I feel bad about the review I am about to give. I was given an ecopy of this book to review for free and I am not going to give this book a good review. I cannot recommend this book. The plot makes no sense. I had and have no idea what was going on in the book. I do not know who the real killer was and what makes this worse is that I do not care. I do not care about any one of the characters. I did not feel that the characters were real. The dialogue was forced, confusing, and in some places just down right bizarre. There are time jumps that are unexplained and just serve to confuse the reader even more. Danta is, I think, supposed to be interesting and very smart but he was fake and boring. I was bored for some of this novel because it was un-understandable. I think that this was to be a thriller but it was too all over the place to be anything. At the end of the novel when the person convicted of the killings is hanged there is a weird paranormal something that I am not sure why it was in the novel. About the point of view; Baker goes from third person close to third person omniscient back to third person close again all within the same sentence. The other main character goes from being teacher to victim to killer all without the reader getting any hint as to why. I could go on but I am going to stop now. Maybe I am just not the intended reader for this book but I do not recommend this book. I give this book One out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I was given this book in exchange for my honest review and this gives me no pleasure.

I’d give Lethal Believers DVM ten stars if possible! August 25, 2013
The first part of Lethal Believers Series was a great 5 star read but this second one...WOW! I'd give it ten stars if possible. Investigator Danta continues his battle against the evil, forming strange alliances as trying to help The Innocents. Danta teams up with Greek myth Lamia as they share a common goal. Protect The Innocents and fight on their behalf. Ancient myths becomes alive, and a bed time stories are not just stories anymore when G. M. Baker skillfully entwines the story of Danta and the story of Kagan, her father Evan and a horse called Random together.
A very, very hooking story where every word matters and you simply cannot put it down until the book is finished!

GM Baker does not disappoint. In this continuing tale of protecting the innocents, Baker expertly takes the reader on a complicated journey. Don’t blink, you will most certainly miss something vital. This story is packed with mystery, suspense, and imagination.
As in Baker’s first book, Lethal Believers – The Innocents, the reader is taken on a journey of discovery. Baker makes the reader ‘feel’ every emotion as the journey Danta must take unfolds. You will find yourself loving Random, hating Dr. Simmons, and mourning for Dante’s lost love, Pauline. But never lose heart, Baker has as many twists and turns for the reader as he does for his characters. I absolutely loved The Innocents, book one in the series, and I loved DVM just as much. I am looking forward to reading other books written by this very talented author.

WOW! I definitely give this book, “Lethal Believers DVM,” a 5-star rating. This is a “edge of your seat” “page turner.” Mr. Baker knows how to keep you interested and begging for more once you finish. You can’t help but fall in love with Ms. Kagan. There are unexpected surprises and at times you can't read fast enough to see what happens. I highly recommend this book...you won’t be disappointed!

This is the second in the Lethal Believers series so I had a certain expectation going into the read. I was not disappointed. Mr. Baker continues to engage readers with his cryptic style and powerful storyline. Mr. Baker is a master at shrouding the mundane in mystery and twisting the storyline so that the seeming unrelated...becomes oh so connected. Although, ‘DVM’ is strong enough to be read on its own merit...it flows nicely from `The Innocents'...with layers being added that enhance both reads. I highly recommend reading both of these engaging books!

Don’t blink, you might miss something crucial! Lethal Believers: The Innocents is a unique and complicated story. I was hooked from the very beginning. G Mitchell Baker takes the reader on a journey so deep, I felt like I was a part of the story. The secrecy that each of the characters held, kept me moving through the story as though I was the one collecting the evidence, gleaning information vital to my own survival. Mr. Baker writes expertly and very differently from any other author I have ever experienced, dropping clues very subtly so that I knew I did not want to miss even one sentence. And, just when I thought I had things all sorted out, Mr. Baker would throw in a curve ball! I found myself both loving and hating each character at different times in the story. A Very Believable Lethal Twist!! July 8, 2013
Just when you think you have read every possible story line or plot, a new twist of events and scenarios appears. “Lethal Believers D.V.M.” is an intriguing, well written story that will have you in the saddle riding Random with ease and roping steer with Evan. You will find yourself tearing up over Danta's deceased Pauline...or is she? You will cry for The Innocents and grow to have a very deep hatred for Dr. Gray Simmons and his staff, who do nothing to help. The scene with Random is so real, so heartbreaking, so emotional that I'd suggest Kleenex. It is a rare author that can make me scream “NO!” out loud while reading. Believable characters melded with an excellently interwoven plot make this a "must read" and a very difficult book to put down once started. G. Mitchell Baker writes with a style that gives an awesome visual of the characters as well as the surroundings. Congratulations on an excellent book!

A Book of Choices June 25, 2013
I finished reading this book on Father's Day which felt very fitting considering it relates to a father’s involvement with his children. But it is more than that. It is a book of choices. The theme of hitting rock bottom...as my mama would say...transcends to all areas of life. It is truly the place we as humans dread more than any other. But the thing about it is once you are there you only have two choices...stay where you are...or climb up.
Mr. Baker has woven the decline to the bottom and the subsequent choices into a compelling novel, which kept my attention from the first page until the last sentence...and has me eager for the sequel. Well done Mr. Baker...well done.

5 of 5 Stars Review by By M. Sharek, June 27, 2017

I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Soccer and Baseball - yes please! July 5, 2014
I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Combining two pastimes that I enjoy watching, and have enjoyed in partaking over the years, I couldn't say no to this opportunity. This book is a young adult tale with a difference.

This book is really special to me because it has writers of my Koda 'family', writing the stories and poems. What can u say about a book like this other than 'it's marvelous dahling’!

Imagine my surprise when I had to read this wonderful collection of memories in just one sitting once I got started. It just goes to show that you should never judge a book by its cover and I am ever so thankful to all the authors for sharing a part of themselves. Thank you all!!!

Excellent! August 9, 2013

Kagan. She is a spit-fire, loveable little girl that is not afraid to tell it like it is. There are some other characters that are not so endearing. There are unexpected surprises and at times you can't read fast enough to see what happens. I highly recommend this book...you won’t be disappointed!

Engaging Read July 12, 2013

An Enlightening Experience June 12, 2013
This is a very moving and touching story about a man named Jon whose life was turned upside down. He meets a lot of different people who help him see life in a way he’s never seen before. I felt as though I was on the journey with Jon seeing life through his eyes. This book had me laughing at times at the characters and their involvement in Jon's life. At other times it would bring tears to my eyes reading the experiences that these characters, along with Jon, had to go through. There is so much more I would love to say in order to get others to read this book, but I don’t want to give too much away. This book
