Jon Emerson, a father with the courage to accept humility and, to devolve in a sincere effort to fend off the effects of both personal and professional devastation, learns to value, remain involved in, and, to influence the most important aspects of his children’s lives. No longer the arrogant legal professional and sovereign over meaningless relationships, Jon finds himself on the streets of Seattle, eventually experiencing “meaning” after developing significant friendships and relationships with the likes of “Bug Dog”, “Chilly Belly”, “Lutza” and, “Speedy G.”; each of whom remind Jon; and sometimes teaching Jon the essential value for remaining involved in the most important aspects of his children’s lives; that is, to honor their need for him to get re-involved and to make the effort to establish re-relationships with each one of them. After being reminded of his role for becoming re-involved in re-relationships with his children, Jon begins learning about compassion from “Bug Dog”; about perspective from “Chilly Belly”, about frustration from “Lutza”, and about commitment from “Speedy G”, and, while finding something of his own potential when Pastor Dillon decides to get to work on Jon’s spiritual side.

As these friendships and relationships develop, Jon receives the unexpected gift of a valuable collector’s pen from a “Good Samaritan”. Conveying to Jon the choice (i.e., freedom) for pawning it for  a party (Chilly’s choice), or, to use the pen (eventually named “Covet”) to write his way off the Streets, Jon intuitively or, as his spirit leads, finds himself listening to a sermon and writing a father’s lesson to his Children (John 2:1). Drawing a paper napkin from the nearby trash, Jon writes “Napkin #1” (“My little children…”) in hopes that some day his father’s lessoning will reach his three daughters: “Sarah”, “Emma” and “Anna” and, in the hope there will always be some kind of re-relationship between them. Eventually published into a best selling book, “The Napkin Manuscript” enables Jon to re-connect with his daughters and, to reestablish his family ties as a Man of  involvement and commitment, given his Faith and values as a father.

Rating:  The author, G. Mitchell Baker represents “The Napkin Manuscript: Involvement” is a novel in contemporary adult fiction to be rated “PG” or 2 “Steam Kettles” (Passionate kissing). Specifically, G. Mitchell Baker represents this work to be a novel to be considered by parents before they let their younger children read it. The “Parental Guidance” rating indicates, in the view of this author that parents may consider some material unsuitable for their children, and parents should make that decision. The more mature themes in some Parental Guidance material may call for parental guidance. There may be some profanity and some depictions of violence or brief nudity. However, these elements are not as intense to require that parents be strongly cautioned beyond the suggestion of parental guidance. There is no drug use content in this material.
